Ngorongoro Park Rules & Regulations: Essential Guidelines for Visitors

Ngorongoro conservation area is the 2nd most popular and visited protected area in Tanzania after Serengeti national park. It is home to one of the 7 natural wonders of Africa, the famous Ngorongoro crater, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Below are the rules and regulations that everyone who visits Ngorongoro conservation area and the crater is supposed to adhere to

  • Permitted driving time in the park is between 06:00am and 06:00pm (1800hrs). Exception of permitted guided night game drives.
  • Animals have the right of way.
  • Speed limit in the park is 50 km/hour with recommended speed for game drives being 25 km/hour,
  • Off-track driving is strictly prohibited in Ngorongoro. All safari vehicles should keep on the main tracks in park.
  • Do not get too close to the animals.
  • Do not hoot while in the park. Clapping, motor revving, playing loud music or throwing objects to attract the animal’s attention is not allowed. The best way to attract the wildlife’s attention is silence.
  • Pets and weapons are not allowed in the park.
  • Do not litter the park. Keep any rubbish in your vehicle until you get back to your lodge and dispose it off correctly.
  • Picnics are permitted only at authorized locations in the Ngorongoro crater.
  • Make sure you put out camp fires correctly and completely to prevent fire outbreaks in the park especially during the dry season.
  • Do not feed the animals to avoid altering their diets and making them dependent on human feeding. They are wild animals; they know how and where to get their food from.
  • Any form of destruction in the park is not allowed. No breaking or uprooting plants, trees or any shrubs. Do not displace any rocks, eggs or bones found within the conservation area.
  • Keep a safe distance from the wild animals.
  • Use of drones is not allowed in Ngorongoro conservation area.
