To enjoy everything the Ngorongoro Conservation Area offers, visitors must use one of the official gates. There are two main gates and several smaller gates.
Main Entry Gates of Ngorongoro
The two main entry points are Lodoare Gate and Naabi Hill Gate. These gates handle most visitor traffic.
Lodoare Gate
Lodoare Gate is located in the southern sector of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It is the most commonly used gate for travelers coming from Arusha. The gate is about 140 kilometers from Arusha, which is less than two hours by road. This makes it the most convenient gate for many visitors.
The gate sits at the lower base of the Ngorongoro Crater. It is about 14 kilometers from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area headquarters. Nearby attractions include the hippo pool and Lake Magadi, which is known for flamingos.

At Naabi Hill Gate, visitors can pay park fees using cards, collect permits if paid earlier, and get information from the visitor center. There is also a canteen and a gift shop. The open views around the gate make it a good place for short stops and photos.
Smaller Gates of Ngorongoro
Apart from the main gates, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area has smaller gates that also allow access.
Lemale Mini Gate
Lemale Mini Gate is a smaller gate but still provides full access to the conservation area. It is located in the northeastern part of Ngorongoro along the route to Olmoti Crater. The drive between Lemale Mini Gate and Lodoare Gate takes about one hour.
At this gate, visitors can pay park fees using cards. Vehicle inspections are carried out to ensure all park rules are followed. The gate also offers good views of the surrounding plains.
Seneto Mini Gate
Seneto Mini Gate is located on the western side of the Ngorongoro Crater. It lies inside the conservation area and is about 30 minutes from Lodoare Gate. This gate is used by travelers heading toward Olduvai Gorge, which is about one hour away.
Seneto Mini Gate has a ranger post, a campsite, nearby accommodation facilities, and an airstrip. Visitors can pay park fees using cards, have their vehicles inspected, and enjoy views of the plains around the gate.
