The lake is covered in the beautiful acacia tress that helps it attract a lot of wildlife here. This destination has been a favorite spot for tourism since the year 1960. It has attracted a lot of filmmakers, researchers in wildlife and documenters. Researchers like Jane Goodall and Hugo van Lawick used Ndutu as a headquarters for much of their research.

Lake Ndutu has enough water and vegetation to attract a lot of animals and their predators to hunt them. There are a lot of bird species here as well. The lake is located I a bowl shaped ditch which has a complete ecosystem and this makes the animals come here and never leave. This makes the area a very good place for game viewing.

The lake is a shallow lake and it’s also an alkaline lake. It’s on the South eastern border of the Serengeti national park which is also in the vicinity of the Ngorongoro. The Lake shares the same basin with the Lake Masek which is in the eastern side of the Ngorongoro conservation area.

The excavation research in 1973 on the shore of the lake Ndutu led to the discovery of cranium mineral ores in the Ngorongoro conservation area. The archaeological research was looking to find the remains expected to have been here for over 500,000 years.
