Ngoitokitok Springs in Ngorongoro Crater Guide

Ngoitokitok Springs is a quiet and relaxing stop inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It is one of the few places in the crater where visitors are allowed to step out of the vehicle and stretch their legs. This makes it a popular resting point during a game drive in Ngorongoro.

The name Ngoitokitok comes from the local Maasai language and refers to bubbles. The spring produces clear water that bubbles up from underground as it flows toward the nearby Gorigor Swamp. These bubbles can be seen on the surface of the water, which explains how the spring got its name.

Ngoitokitok Springs is well known for its calm setting. Thick vegetation surrounds the water, creating shade and a peaceful atmosphere. This vegetation also attracts many animals. Hippos are often found in the water, and visitors can hear them grunting and moving below the surface. The sounds of the hippos add to the natural feeling of the area and make the visit more memorable.

There is a small rock edge near the spring that creates a natural viewing point. This rock also provides a good background for photos. Many travelers stop here to take pictures, relax, and enjoy the view of the water and plants. The spring is one of the best picnic spots inside the Ngorongoro Crater.

Visitors are allowed to carry packed lunch and enjoy a picnic at Ngoitokitok Springs. However, care is needed while eating here. Hawks live in the area and are known to grab food if it is left unattended. It is advised to keep food close and remain alert at all times.

The cool water, green surroundings, and animal sounds make Ngoitokitok Springs a good place to rest during a safari. It offers a break from long game drives and allows visitors to enjoy nature in a calm and safe environment while exploring the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
