Mumba Rockshelter: Exploring Tanzania’s Ancient Archeological Site

When looking for one of the most famous areas in Tanzania and Africa, look no further than the Ngorongoro conservation area. It’s a true Spectacle of Africa and that’s why it’s a UNESCO world heritage site from the year 1979 and on the list of the seven wonders of Africa. The cats are attracted here because there are many animals that they can prey on.

The Mumba Roclshelter in Ngorongoro Area is located on the shores o the Lake Eyasi on the northern side. The area is believed to house some of the very important natural archeological phenomena in the region. The shelter is important is the research about the transition from the Middle stone age to the later stone age. The shelter is about 11 meters thick. The rocks are dated about 130,000 years ago. The rocks are located about 3 Kilometers from the shores of Lake Eyasi.

Best time to visit.

You can visit this area any time of the year. It is however advised that you make a safari here during the dry months. The dry months are between December to February and Mid June to September. This is a tropical area and despite these months being dry, it can rain any time. The wet months are between October to November and March to Mid June. You can still visit even in the wet months. It doesn’t mean that during the wet months it rains all day every day of the week.
